meet dr. shannon mccaul,

dentist, jackson family dental

shannon mccaul, dmd

When Dr. McCaul was four years old, she was jumping on her bed when she fell off and hit her front tooth on a storage bin. Two things she learned from that day were: 1. listen to your mom when she tells you not to jump on your bed and 2. sometimes a bonked tooth will die and turn gray. Dr. McCaul’s older brother dubbed her gray front tooth her “black tooth,” as brothers do. From then on Dr. McCaul was very curious about teeth, even after her infamous “black tooth” fell out and was replaced by a normal, healthy permanent one. A few years later, eight-year-old Dr. McCaul started telling everyone she was going to be a dentist when she grew up!

Dr. McCaul grew up on an elk farm outside of Rolla, Missouri where she learned the value of hard work from her parents and four older siblings. On the farm, she learned a little bit of everything… bottle feeding baby elk and cows, which roosters to run from if they start looking at you the wrong way, catching crawdads without getting pinched, growing all the fruits and vegetables you can in the Missouri climate, getting honey out of a beehive without the honeybees swarming, and whatever other hobbies her parents decided to take on over the years. Dr. McCaul’s childhood cultivated her deep love and fascination with nature and biology and many of her own hobbies are now a result of that.

Dr. McCaul loves to go backpacking, hiking, and camping all over the us, especially while visiting the national parks. She loves the experience of being completely immersed in nature. In more recent years, Dr. McCaul received her scuba certification and diving among the oceans’ reefs has become one of her favorite hobbies. Her favorite wildlife to see are octopi, sea turtles, and sharks! when she is not visiting the national parks or scuba diving off tropical islands, Dr. McCaul enjoys snow skiing out west — one of her family’s many outdoor hobbies.

While at home in Kansas City, Dr. McCaul lives in her plant-filled apartment with her two golden retrievers, Aspen and Maple, who are named after two of her favorite species of trees! On a more regular basis, Dr. McCaul enjoys going on walks with Aspen and Maple, exercising after the work day is over, spending time with her friends, and occasionally getting her easel out to paint.

Dr. McCaul grew to enjoy painting and drawing over the past several years and this artistic side of her is brought out every day as a dentist. She likes to think of restoring teeth as a big art project! Her artistic abilities, matched with her empathetic nature and extroverted personality, make being a dentist her dream job.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Jackson and his team. My husband and children have been seeing him for a few years now and I recently switched my care to his team and I am so happy I did. Super sweet, family-oriented, and provide excellent care.

Best dentist we have ever been to! The entire staff made my daughter’s first visit so easy and safe. Thank you so much!

— Amber S.

They always treat me so well, and pamper me with a warm neck pillow and the massaging chair! It definitely takes the stress away, but the hygienists are so excellent at what they do, and Dr. Jackson is very kind.

— Kathy B.

Everyone here is so very sweet and helpful! they always work with my schedule and help get me an appointment, even if it’s last minute. The office is beautiful and so well run. The best part is they always give you a cookie on the way out.
